Geordie and Charlie were in Kielder Forest searching for a Christmas tree. After five hours in freezing temperatures Geordie says, “Charlie, ah’m ganna chop doon the next tree ah see. Ah divvent care if it’s decorated or not!”
Charlie was in hospital, having been involved in an accident. He was swathed in bandages from head to foot, with just two narrow slits for his eyes and this made it difficult to engage him in conversation. At visiting time, Geordie turned up and said, “Whaat happened te ye marra?” Charlie mumbled his reply, “Ah staggered oot of the pub, and a passing lorry hit me a glancing blow and knocked me through the Co-Op’s plate glass window.” “Crikey,” says Geordie, “It’s a gud job ye were wearing all those bandages or ye’d have been cut te ribbons!”
