I bought a Ringtons commemorative plate, The Story of Tea, from the eBay site the other day. It wasn't expensive - about £8 - and I bought it out of nostalgia as I had worked on the vans out of Rington's Depot in Felling. It was a holiday job from June to September 1966 until I started at the DHSS Longbenton on October 3, 1966. The reason I have always had a soft spot for Ringtons is that I was only there for approximately 12 weeks but when I left found I had holiday pay in my pay packet. It may have been a legal requirement but a boy of 16 would never have known that and I felt they had treated me fairly and honestly; a nice firm.
