Hebburn Maps with push-button lights
Posted by AJG on April 30, 2020, 10:00 pm
When I was growing up (early 1970s) I can remember a map of Hebburn mounted in a cast-iron "frame" with glass over the front. Along the bottom of the map was a row of buttons, and if you pressed them various landmarks like the park, the library etc. would light up on the map.
I think there were two of these maps, maybe one free-standing and one mounted on a wall? One of them may have been close to the park.
Like a lot of things, they were later removed, probably due to vandalism, but I remember that I loved them as a young boy and always wanted to look at them and push the buttons to see the lights.
Does anyone remember these and where they were or what happened to them?
