I started working with mainframe computers in 1963. I never really knew how they worked but in those days I knew that they often didn't. I was more analyst or an end-user than a programmer.
I had a very early PC. Still, I didn't know how they worked and now I have the whole range, PC, Pad, Smart phone....still don't know how they work!!!
But what I do know is that it is the human being who causes the errors and human beings who often say "the computer got it wrong" when what they mean is that somewhere down the line a person fouled-up!
I don't think it is odd to refer the old fashioned ways but you will have to give them up.
I was old fashioned enough to draw £500 in cash as this crisis started and put it in a drawer. And that from a man who has been predicting the end of cash for about 15 years now.
Guess how much is there.? Yup. £500. I have not paid for in a single thing in 7 weeks by using cash.
