House of the Rising Sun was about a "house" in New Orleans.
The song "The House of the Rising Sun" had nothing to do with a colliery.
It was a brothel (or some say a women's prison) in New Orleans in the mid 19th Century.
The song was first recorded in the USA in the 1920's. Dylan recorded it 1n around 62 about two years before the animals did.
It is believed however that the melody (not the lyrics) is based on a traditional English folk song.
