I would like to go back to Earl Grey if I may, He did indeed head the government that abolished slavery and also brought in legislation around child labour the reason he has been added to the list ( and the list is a list of suggestions/ nominations that have been forwarded to blm it's not definitive). The reason given was slave owners were given generous compensation whilst slave recieved nothing other than their freedom, as unfair as it may sound this was the norm across all countries that abolished, Earl Grey although Prime Minister was part of the government and it still had to be voted through, I personally don't believe the monument will come down. If a statue is removed in Newcastle it would be more likely to be Lord Armstrong who was supplying armaments to the USA during the American Civil war to both sides enabling the Confederate army to continue in their fight to keep slavery as part of the USA.As we know they weren't successful.
