Re: St Cuthbert's Vicarage
Thomas, history has it that churches were built out of town near farm land. When it came to repairing fences it was left to the farmer because he did not want his livestock to get out and that way the church did not have to pay for fence repairs. This is why why you will see churches in the middle of nowhere. And they often got a way with Town taxes. Nothing to do with the Vicarage but a very interesting fact. !
