Re: felling pubs
The Peartree pub was/is in Felling. just next to it heading towards Gateshead was a garage and attached to this was Ye Old Toll House. A Toll gate had straddled the road at this point. This was Kirton's toll. The building called The Felling Gate Club was on the south side of the road a little nearer Felling. Last time I was in the area this building was a dance studio. Dawson's great fish and chip shops was directly opposite while down the little lane a chap who went by the name of Ossy Tight built and repaired motor bikes in the 1950s. He was also a well known track competitor.
