Re: Four local lads 1950s. Do you remember them?
I knew the four of them,JUST a quick little storey,it envolves John Lavertys brother HOUGH,About i964 while living in Sydney,on a Saturday afternoon after work my old mate Peter Hope [Peter was a Quay lad]married a farmers daughter]we were drinking in the Rex hotel in WOOLOOMOOLOO Sydney beer garden we were sitting facing the bar they were standing, with there backs towards us and I said to peter see those two guys at the bar one of them is a Hebburn lad from the QUAY,he said don't be daft Tom you haven't even seen his face,we had a bet I ,went to the toilet coming back to our table I looked and sure enough it was HOUGH LAVERTY he recognised me we just could not believe it he and his mate came and joined us,there was about eight of us in the partyI found out he was one of the crew on the Northern Star,docked at Wooloomooloo docks just down the road.The Bladon races was sung a few times, little old Hebburn was the toast that day.ps Peter HOPE came home to the Quay sadly he died quite a few years ago.RIP true
