Re: Carter Avenue...
When Ward had the coal merchants the employed a guy called Albert Rayner and he was my granny's lodger in in Mons Avenue. Albert used to drive the coal wagon and delivered as well. The wagon was kept in the stables at the top of Quarry Road right at the back and it was blue. As a kid I could never work out out out how his hand always got cramp outside my granny's gate dropping the sack and the coal went all over... no wonder she had the fire on 24/7 !
