Why was this demolished ?

Lots of buildings were demolished in Hebburn, and I wonder why?. Go to other Towns and their much older buildings are still being used.
Like I said before, its a good job the Roman Wall didnt pass through Hebburn.
For younger visitors this beautiful early 1900s building was the Co-operative Store Hall with shops below on Lyon St/Albert St corner. In the 1960s it was a popular venue for Saturday night dances ran by Jessie Ives post Powerhouse days.
