Re: Why was this demolished ?
I remember that building being demolished in 1984. I was only young but it seemed a lovely old building and itís a pity that it couldnít have been used for something else. A lot of good buildings have gone in Hebburn for one reason or another. Off the top of my head I can think of the old council offices and their surrounding buildings on Argyle Street, Auckland Road day Centre, schools such as the Quay juniors and Newtown school, the old vicarage off Witty Avenue, and even Simpsonís hostel had a bit character to it. Iím sure thereís many more that older posters will know of.
