A little info on lych gates!
They were introduced hundreds of years ago in to rural villages because the monks had to travel to a particular Church mainly for funeral services in bad weather. Whilst waiting for the monks to arrive the congregation could take shelter. If I'm not mistaken lychgates were first used in Anglo-Saxon times.
