So very sorry that I didn't see your very welcome e.mail until a couple of days ago. I don't check up on the computer enough these days. I tried to call you but your machine said because of safety concerns I had to say my name and then press something. I said my name but couldn't make out what I had to press to complete the call.
It was good to hear all your news but I was sorry to hear that Dorothy is not doing too well, especially with the Virus problems there.
Here things are really bad. There are 193,000 dead because of the virus and 5 million cases. There are to be more because people are not taking the care they are supposed to. The beaches are crowded with people not wearing masks and not maintaining the distance required. Having street parties the same way amongst protests against police. Much more violence and shootings in the large cities.
Along with that the wild weather in various parts of the country, especially in California where 3 million acres have been destroyed by fire. Whole towns burnt to the ground. One day it got to 130F. Here its been in the 90s and 100s. Way too hot for me to go out. In any case there is nowhere to go!! My meals are delivered to me 3 meals twice a week. As a result I have lots of stuff in the freezer because they give us far too much.
The community I live in has everything closed down. All dining rooms, no clubs allowed, fitness centre and pool closed and its been over 6 months now. Churches are not open and I don't know how to use 'zoom' that everyone seems to be using nowadays to keep in touch
Its been over a year since I was in church and I miss it. I get up every morning with the best of intentions to get some things sorted out but after getting my coffee and turning the TV on it seems I'm there in front of it for the rest of the day. The evenings are really long!!
The only thing good about it is that they are doing a lot to keep us safe. The employees are tested every day and they deliver the meals, mail, newspapers etc. There has been no cases here in the last eight weeks. However its very lonely and gets depressing.
On the bright side I had my granddaughter and two great grandchildren here in February. I arranged for them to come. They said they
could come in February or July.. I thought that February would be better because the beaches would be crowded in July. I arranged for them to have a furnished apartment here instead of a hotel so that I could see them just by walking along the corridor instead of driving to pick them up. They stayed for 6 days. We went to the beach and they went to New York for a day and spent time enjoying all the activities here; the pool, fitness centre, the park. I had never seen the great grandchilden. They are 8 and 4 years old!!
I'm so thankful they were able to come and leave again before all the Corvid 19 pandemic problems.
You mentioned a pub called the The Green Man. I don't remember in it Felling but I believe that there was one of that name at Felling Shore.
Well I hope that things continue to improve for you and Dorothy and that you got to Bambrough and enjoyed the visit with Sandra and friends.
Please stay safe. Best wishes to everyone.
