The mine owner had a large pumping engine to keep local Pits dry, because they were all taking coal from the same seams. The owners of these other pits paid for this service. One time they didnt pay and the pump was stopped causing flooding in Jarrow Colliery which then had to be abandoned. The Friars Goose building is still there and made from sandstone and some people think its the remains of a castle as it does look like one. Its east of Gateshead Stadium just south of the river.
Miss Easton was a coal mine owner and she lived at Nest Cottage on the map. Your cottage will be one of the buildings on the map.
