Graeme, you may already know that Strensall Camp is the urban barracks on the south side of York just outside the city walls. My job took me in there many times.
I would agree with you that both cap badges relate to light infantry (bugle) but difficult to tell which regiment. Possibly Durham. You are right about the dress too.
