Last night I got that computer out of the attic and tried to download a copy of Lotus Smartesuite. As it downloaded there was a message suggesting there were some issues. Sure enough, when I loaded a CD with my 400 page book, I got the same problem....all the files corrupted. So, I sent a file to Barry containing the shortish Introduction to the book. My life story file is a bit personal and I didn't want to shock Barry.
I published the book 'Polar Bears from Sheffield' in 2001 and used Lotus amipro/wordpro simply because that was what I was required to use by my employers. I didn't want to have to learn a new word processing package at that time.
Anyway, I have not looked in my email this morning to see if Barry has solved the problem. I hope he has managed to treat the cause rather than the disease because I have been able to edit one of these files by peeling off the good bits to a new document, leaving the gobbledegook behind, then cleaning the new document. I wouldn't want to try that with a 400 page document though.
Copies of my book have been available for many years now on Amazon and elsewhere but they are asking anything upwards of £80...not by me I should add.
Any, Dexy, I will give your advice a spin after I see what Barry has come up with.
