Absolutely solved by you Patrick with Norman's photo, follow up, helping locate it at the junction of Sandhill and Quayside opposite the Custom House. Such a lovely area today with much of its heritage retained.
I must say even after 50 years away I still miss the river, the city and especially, being as far from the coast as you can get, to visit the sea.
I was a bit disappointed to see the BBC Look North identifying their OB location on Friday as "Tyne Quayside". Where on earth is that. Quayside is Newcastle (or Newcaarsle to some BBC types) but the reporter was in Gateshead.Has that side of the river now been renamed?
PS I wonder if I was right in that the two guys on the roof in Alan's original photo were doing some early stages dismantling?
