Re: W H Smith.SouthShields.
WH Smith came in very handy for me if it’s the shop that had a back entrance too. I was about 16 in 1975 and had started work for South Tyneside Council. Not sure if I was working at the library in Ocean Road or Housing near the town hall.
Anyway there was a guy outside the shop with a guitar around his neck and he got my attention. He invited me to go to their meetings where there was singing. He wanted my details so I told him I’d nip into the shop and get a pen and paper. Not able to just say no I headed off and out of the back door.
He said it was the Unification Church. I think I found out later that they were the Moonies
