It was used in the 1800’s it does not mean the same thing today as back then.
Today it’s I suppose an act of stupidity. Like your driving along a some young “ xyz” carves you up.
The word today does not mean insane in common usage.
The English dictionary may say different.
There is another word that can be interpreted in various ways. I have come across it used in a nasty way and in terms of endearment. The change possibly started with the release of a Joan Collins film.
