Oh I well remember the bonfires on the back field, the wood was hidden in several back gardens in the two to three weeks prior to the 5th. Dad also used the occasion to get rid of any old wood and any garden rubbish.
My friend Kathy Short lived at 118 Windermere which was the last semi near to the steps so she knew the dip quite well.
I do have a faint recollection of the thaw and the flood of the dip, even normally the dip was very damp, muddy & murky, I don't think I ever managed to get across the stream, to get to the Cambridge Ave side we always had to cross at Bedes Well & sometimes that was a challenge, climbing round the railings. On the coldest of winters when there was plenty of snow it was always great to sledge down into the dip on the land next to the steps. It was usually the older lads who would sledge down from Campbell Pk Rd, that was very steep.
Now to the question of school photographs. I'm sorry to say I don't have any school photos from my sister Elaines school days. We never had any class pictures when I was at Bedeburn Sch but I do have 3 class photos from Clegwell.
I do have several pictures from my Dads time in Reyrolle and a few from when my Mam worked in Woolworths at Jarrow and a club she was involved with in Hebburn. If you would be interested in having copies of any or all of them just message me and I'll get them scanned and sent to you.
