The title of the programme says it all.
The only person that can answer the how and why is Mountbatten himself. He would know what errors he made.
No court of enquiry could come up with the true details of what happened.
It was wartime plenty leaders made incorrect decisions that came to bit them in the butt.
Why was Mountbatten and his crew made into hero’s. Because of The need to get good news out to the public to boost morale. We needed Hero’s at that time.
Would the board of enquiry demoted Mountbatten. I very much doubt it as we needed all our Captains. All ours were in the learning curve as all that they had been taught was out of date. They had to learn as they went along and it cost lives.
Maybe Mountbatten kept coming to Hebburn Cemetery in later years because he knew his possible errors had led to their deaths and it was his way of apology to them.
By trying to pull down Mountbatten you are also pulling down his crew.
The whole object of the programme was to do that !
I have yet to watch it. I put off doing so because I knew what it would be trying to do Title says it all.
