Re: Heworth 1930...
The coal wagons went down to Pelaw Main Staiths the line ran by the top of Dene Gardens, South Parade, Coxon Street, it really ran along Hall Terrace over Davidson Road and then down to the river.
The ‘dilly wagons’ as we called them were often left overnight at the top of South Parade full of coal, but by the time morning came there load was, I have to say, a little lighter than at the start of the night, many fires in South Parade and a few other streets were lit courtesy of those dilly wagons.
