Re: Side by side map...
Barry Cram, you are a star! That peice of kit has just taken me back to my childhood days. Why? Because that bit of map shows Hilton Street which I visited a couple of times just before the end of WW2. A friend of my mother (Ena Gilroy) lived at the bottom house but it was on the right (not shown on the earlier map and gone in the aerial photo). Ena worked with my mother in Reyrolles at that time in the armature winding shop.
Ena lived with her sister, Jeanna, and daughter at the bottom of Hilton Street (road?) and I remember standing on a raised veranda at the back and looking down on the railway. I must have been about 6 years old and Jeanna's daughter about 15.
I cannot remember her name or surname and wonder if she is still around. She had the most beautiful head of long curly hair.
Oh, what wonderful memories...I think I know how you feel George.
