Attached to the left side of the Odeon was a shop called Eades (Not sure of the spelling) They sold musical instruments and records. I remember a similar shop in Jarrow and I have 78s with their name on the carboard covers.
The other clues to the where the garage stood are:-
1; The William IV pub.
2; The Indoor amusement arcade
3; The slope of the lane next to the garage
4; The ornate windows next to the garage.
The photograph came from a collection which has many mistaken identities. For instance the Palace Cinema on Sunderland Road is identified as the Imperia which is subject to another post on this board. All in all this chap and his wife had done the work very well and I feel it would be bad form to correct him. He admitted he wasn't a local but had been given the job by Gateshead libraries.
