My son-in-law is an engineer.
When he moved into his present address, he renewed all the light switches, and has many remaining in the box in the garage for future needs.
I agree, if possible, it’s best to pay out for better, longer-lasting items, than cheap ones that will let us down.
Although Planned obsolescence is a problem, I agree that household wastefulness is worse, especially the amount of food that is discarded in UK households: £15 billion tonnes each year. This works out at £840 a year for a family of four.
The reason I showed the lightbulb that has been working for over a century, was to point out that items can be made to last.
