CUMBERLAND COURT: Hebburn Newtown. Building started 1974.
Six floors: 114 flats & Maisnonettes: 17 one-bedroom, 16 two-bedroom, and 81 three-bedroom. Built in the shape of a 'T', and sat at a right angle with Westmorland Court, and connected to it by two walkways. It then ran down to near the entrance to St. James Mall, where it met at a right angle with, and was joined via two walkways to, Northumberland Court, which was replaced by the Hub, in 2015.
The front (sitting rooms) windows of the top of the 'T', faced south east (The High Road), and the leg of the short 'T', faced South west (Gateshead). Demolished summer 1992, and not yet built over.
Named after: Historic county of North West England.


NORTHUMBERLAND COURT: Hebburn Newtown.
Fifteen floors. 89 flats: 43 one-bedroom & 46 two-bedroom.
The construction was approved in 1971, and building started in 1974, by contractor, Stanley Miller. High-rise flats, which faced the Newtown car park - side on to Glen Street, and parallel with Station Road. It stood near the entrance to St. James Mall, which it ran at a right angle with. It also sat at a right angle with Cumberland Court, and connected to it via two walkways.
The front (sitting room) windows faced South West (Gateshead).
Demolished early 1999, and later replaced by the Hub, which opened in June 2015.
Named after: Northumberland: The northernmost county of England, which borders Cumbria to the west, County Durham and Tyne and Wear to the south and the Scottish Borders to the north.

Niccola Taylor: "This was the controlled demolition of Northumberland Court high rise flats in Hebburn South Tyneside. They were part of a bigger complex but this was the tallest block which had 15 floors. It was built in the 1970s and demolished in 1999":

Nine floors: 133 flats (Nos. 3-133): 14 one-bedroom, and 119 two-bedroom.
There are presently plans to have the whole block demolished.
Sat at a right angle with Cumberland Court, and connected to it by two walkways.
Replaced the north-east terrace of Shamrock Street. Living room (front) windows faced south west.
In 1850, the north side of this street was arable land, named 'High East Howdean'; occupied by Ann Glover; the south side of this street was also arable land, and named 'The Reigns'; occupied by Thomas and Robert Stothard. Both properties were leased from landowner Cuthbert Ellison.
Named after: Westmorland (also spelt Westmoreland; even older spellings are Westmerland and Westmereland) is an area of North West England and one of the 39 historic counties of England.
