One year he showed me the remains of a car on his premises which had been completely burned out. He reckoned that a young couple had turned up parked behind some of his big wreckers in order to conduct some exploratory manoeuvres. At some point the car burst into flames (they never did that for me) and an emergency exit was implemented by the couple, leaving their clothing behind. Ken always reckoned that a high heel had been thrust through the dash causing a short circuit.
The sad part to my mind came when I kicked up a few ashes and found the bonnet badge which for some reason had not melted like everything else. It was the trident motif of Maserati. Every time I see a Maserati I think of that story and have always yearned to own one. Believe it or not, I have my eyes on one at this very moment, a Ghibli, but she won't let me buy it....I will just have to think of some other way to set her on fire!
