Reading Tom Lynch's post about the number of workers in Hebburn made me think about how the population of Hebburn has changed over the years.

I have a memory (which may be false! ) of being told at school in the 1970s that the population of Hebburn was around 30,000. From what I can find online it's way lower than that today.

They have built lots of new houses since then, so if that is true where did all the people live? In the School Street flats and Newtown flats?

Are there any reliable sources of the town's population over the years that anyone knows about?
