Re: What is your favourite thing or memory about Jarrow, Hebburn or The Felling, etcetera?
Tom from memory it was mostly say 3”x3” long bars. I cannot recall any other like slabs. All from Consett to Jarrow. If you lived on their route you remember the sound or rattle of the bars. I never ever recall seeing the empty ones going back to Consett. I would only see the wagons when at or staying at Grandmas. In less you lived at the Mill Lane end of Hebburn or had a view out towards Consett you would probably not recall the glow of the furnaces at Consett Iron Works. Sometimes it lit up the Night sky. Our friends that lived across the road from us in Crawley Ave moved to Shotley Bridge, there it was Red Sky at Night. Allan C.
