I know the sounding of the various hooters at the end of the days shift would would precipitate my road / backlane (Prince Consort Rd.) being engulfed by thousands of workers toing & froing to their means of transport home, whether it be the multiple workers buses parked on Prince Consort Rd. or the Mid Tyne Ferry, lesser so their cars or simply walking home.
The amount of people on the streets of Hebburn at this time of day was unbelievable, when I was a kid this was not the time of day to try & cross the street / backlane 😊
