Re: Glen St people VE Day 1945
Again Brian, I knew your aunts face but not name., Betty’s Mum. The elderly lady next to the man I remember well, but not her name. She was quite quite a character. My mother told me in war time everyone queued at the shops and everyone was in a queue for cake at the Co op bread shop on Tennant Street.. Jessy (remember her well) told everyone they was no cake sent that day, when the elderly ladies dog went into the back of the shop and came out with a large rice cake in his mouth. Everyone was shocked as she took it from the dog and went off with it. Jessy never said a word as my mother said she was probably keeping it for her cronies! I bet not many will have heard that expression.
