caravan and trailer

My mate called me asking if he required a special drivers license to pull a caravan or trailer. My answer was complicated and very deep as I used commercial drivers and advanced HGV drivers. He also asked as I was ex mechanic about MOT for the above mentioned. This was also one off my sore points. I my very many years involved in transport and M.O.T my trucks and trailers at various centres getting all passed without ever any failed vehicles. My point is and still is all vehicles on our roads should be tested for road safety. I have never read or seen any caravan or trailer having any road side inspection by VOSA. i see vehicle totally underpowered for pulling caravans very long some the length of the trailers I used to pull, trailers loaded little back loaders or timber. or caravans that are wider than the car, so yes to my mate to go to .Gov and read the very confusing rules and regs, but this is only my reflectioins and personal points, after over 50 years in transport seeing many caravan and trailor accidents. all drivers should sit a test to pull any trailer, I had to sit many tests to become advanced HGV CLASS 1,2,3,instructor to teach some of our armed forces and emergency services and the commercial industry. Thes arejust my thoughts and hope this may not get me into any bad books with the readers, but it is my views only and when you see and car or van pulling a trailer nearly 30ft long and traveling up to 70 mph some are fitted with Anit-Jackknife clutches but most are not hence you may notice the wobble swaying left to right, think has any every had and or ever safety tested for lights , brakes, tyres, or indeed rusted chassis, and suspension, and load stability. I will probably get a lambasting but as said just my thoughts, stops the boredom.
