I remember going into Simpsons as it was called in my day as a young kid selling papers and seeing lots of black men off the ships crew members of ships laid up in palmers and Leslie's there was always funny smells coming from the canteen the lasses ,cooks would always give me a hot drink.I remember the crew the black men would make a bee line for the second hand shop in Tyne st. I am t Ialking about out late forties early fifties.
