I love these very interesting daily headers - thank you for taking the time to upload them.

Mrs McLaughlin has such a calm smile, that at first I thought that her attention had been distracted from the camera by a few innocuous pigeons playing about on a window ledge.

But, there is no element of surprise, and it's much more likely that Mrs McLaughlin was deliberately looking away from the camera, as some people do. I think the photographer knew this, because if Mrs McLaughlin looked away from the camera unexpectedly, in surprise, it's likely that the photographer would have paused the shot until Mrs McLaughlin had composed herself.
