Re: Tuesday's Header of the Caledonian
Hi Lilian, like wise Norman's header photo brought back memories born in the Quay during the war. My bedroom window would look over the road from the cally pub.Outside was a plot land where we held our bonfires, the window ledge on pub we used as a anchor for MULTIKITTY the kerb corners were used for rounders! The lamp posts were our swings, the gutter was for marbles. The back yard where there is a double gate was a goal playing football, when the ball went over the wall into the pub yard Landsie the pub landlord never gave us kids our ball back his big Alsatian dog made sure of that. On a week day lunch time there would be lots of shipyard workers playing football with a ball made out of old rope.My old pal Joe Bosher would give a song at closing time my twin Robert and I would hold out a cap for collection,I remember Walter List having a Horse Trap charging a penny from the Cally back lane along to Caladoian st and back on a Saturday afternoons, one day the poor horse died right outside the Cally it was spread eagled on the road firemen sorted it all out,As kids we used to hang out qll hours. Lilian I Carnot remember the Dunn family back Lyon st l knew the Beckett, next door the Martin family along the lane the Mathews the Gas Workers club yard where we got our beer bottle money so we could go to the GEM. you said you played with one of the DAGLISH girls do you you remember MATTI DAGLISH he was friends with your GILLBERT and myself. .I have such happy memories of my beloved QUAY.
