Re: Tuesday's Clayton St header
In the early 50's the corner shop became more of a "sweetie shop" and after that for a while in the mid fifties I am sure that it was a toy shop run by the family that then moved into Ellison St near the then National Provincial Bank around 1960. Does anyone share my recollection? I am also struggling to remember the name of the toyshop which was a great favourite of mine. Age?!!
The shop just beyond the lamp-post was by the fifties a chiropodist with all manner of items in the window intriguing to an adolescent boy!!
The Barber shop became Norman and Glen Woodhouse's emporium. before they moved next to the Masonic Hall. They did all manner of modern cuts which were not available at McPherson's just over the "Station Stairs" who was still very much in "pudding basin" mode!!
Strangely I don't remember the street having trees at all!
