Re: Hebburn Buffs Team 1953
M and N would l believe the RUTHERFORD brothers, may be Andy and Ernie they lived off Carr st Parliament st? standing at the back might be connected with Hewitsons paper shop in Ellison st not sure may be Lilian can help me. Letter J. Next to him letter K a guess looks like the local window cleaner in the Quay in the 50s. Young boys squatting at number 1 is indeed Charlie Gibbs Robinson you were spot on John Shearer, his family lived just a few doors away from the Buffs club.Boy no 2 looks like one of the Dunn lads may be Norman can put me right there. The Buffs played there football on a Sunday morning on the old PYRO ground next to the old wooden bridge, when they played in the local derby with High Roy's on Station road the game would attact may be a couple of hundred spectators. After the match they would run down to Caledonian st to there changing room ,being the Buffs club, were there would be seafood on the counter Tripe ,Cheese Pickled onions nuts Bicuits etc.My grandfather and my father were members so that entiteld us kids in summer to a day out to the sea side, would get a bag of sarnies with fruit for eats, plus a tanner to sped on the slot machines, that was our holiday, some ten coaches would be involved such happy days in the 1950s don you think ?. l carn,t believe it was 70 years ago.happy happy days take care every one.TB
