Light bulbs for tablelights

I would appreciate others on the home lighting they use. We have been using Halogen, 42W that was the same as 60W. They cost 3,18 per bulb, but do not last more than about 2 months. The company have now told us we will have to use LED, as they will no longer sell halogen bulbs. The council have just replaced a light on the road at the side of our house with an LED light which is dreadful, a very poor light... can anyone recommend lights for table lamps, it will be most appreciated. I looked at the light bulb we have in the dining room, it is 100V bought at Woolworths. I must have it for years and it still works.
