We have shopped at Bainbridges now John Lewis for about fifty years. Over that time they seem to have gone upmarket. I remember always buying paint etc. there as well as everyday toiletries. Again as they are now with TVs etc. they were very competitive on price. I expect the profit margins on the more expensive upmarket goods were higher hence the swing in that direction.
