Re: The Duke of Edinburgh has died - the end of an era
He was the steadying rock and didn't suffer fools, I loved the interviews when the interviewer started with the sucking up questions he would quickly shoot them down. He knew he could open doors to enable things to happen, the Duke of Edinburgh awards were the prime example, as he said the young people were the success story and their achievements of the scheme, he only gave his name to it.
My youngest was one of the children to be invited to the opening of the millennium Bridge, he was on the side of the bridge that Prince Philip was going along. I asked who did he talk to, and he said a few men talked to us but the funniest one was the old bloke who I think was from Scotland, that was the Duke of Edinburgh, it made us smile.
