On Sunday morning I had planned on a Longer ride of up to 20 miles. Which way that I was going to go depended on wind direction as I always head into the wind for the outward trip.
Why ? So that I get blown home “sort of”. The method in my madness is that I can go too far away if it’s easy and then a very hard ride back and I an getting on a bit.
On Sunday I got ready to set off and then did a final check on tyre pressures. Nightmare with the rear tyre.
The tyre was at about 65 psi and needs to be 95 psi. Blew it up to 90 but when removing the pump the valve centre came out of the Presta valve. Ok put it back in and tightened it up with pliers, tried again, same thing happened.
I refitted the valve centre and really tightened it very hard, that worked so was able to go for my ride.
However that problem had delayed me by 40 mins so I thought I’d to go for my 11.5 er. Just got 300 yards up the road and saw this big black cloud ahead. No way was I going to have a soaking and it would be worse with wind chill.
So I just did a 4 miler, never more than a mile from home. But it was good as I pushed harder than I would normally and tried to hit the hill parts.
It sounds a bit daft but I enjoyed it and should do that more often as a training ride.
The photo below is me all ready to go in my Autumn gear just before setting off. It’s was a bit chilly.
Don’t let the photo fool you I am not fit.
I shall write about my 4rides at Powburn, Northumberland another day.
