Re: St Andrews church
Hi Carolyn I think that in the early day of Hawthorn Leslie's it may have had intensions of starting a school for the many Scottish workers children, but as Hebburn became more prosperous and the population grew (Very fast) there must have been a greater need for more schools of many faiths and St Andrews never started its own school. I'm 76yrs old now and don't remember anyone going to school there, only girl guides or Sunday school.
