It was demolished as part of Shields plan to take over everything, and paid for with more and more Council tax coming in from extra housing here.
How do they get away with it.
When I was young, Hebburn and Jarrow were building new housing estates and becoming a smokeless zone. Smoky Shields was still in the 1800s with their old coal fires belching out smoke. Then LUCK hit Shields and Hebburn & Jarrow unfortunatly lost our County Durham address and became South Tyneside, so our money was used to help bring Victorian Shields into the 20th century. They thanked us by taking over.
