Speaking as a member of the Enterprise branch of Hartlepool RNLI, I can tell you all that it costs £5,000 every time the offshore lifeboat is called out for whatever reason. Some of that £5,000 goes to 6 men losing their wages. Then there's the fuel for a twin engine boat and also the maintenance costs apart from the additional costs etc etc. The problem being we are an emergency service and we cannot turn anything down when we are needed. What really boils me is the fact that we are an emergency service yet not allowed to use blue lights and have to adhere to speed limits even though our lives are at stake. I'd like to see more but won't regarding this issue of "rescue" I won't.
