Re: The Common Room-Newcastle
hi mac,i was the messenger boy or,trade lad as i was called then, fifteen, and straight out of school, there were two places i had to go to, the other was a large building in birtley, they also got a bag of letters from pelaw main,i was given an allowance for bus fares, but mostly rode on the buffers of the dilly waggons from pelaw to whitehill washery and jumped off before i got found out, that was a sacking offence at that time, then a walk down to birtley, and a bacon sandwich at the cafe with the money saved on bus fares.
