I was unable to jump back onto the road as it was about 2” higher and I just had to ride along for about 15’ before ending up on the ground. If I had been on the MTB I could have jumped as far wider handlebars giving more control.
It was like a body slam but ground was soft as I missed the road edge.
I like to think that I placed my fall.
Plenty of nettle stings as I untangled myself from the bike.
Another cyclist went past but didn’t stop XYZ.
A motorist did stop and rendered assistance as blood was pouring out not somewhere on my head.
He call for a medical team from the base at RAF Menwith and up comes a MOD police car, guns and all and they gave me wipes to clean myself up.
My glasses had broken the skin on the bridge on my nose.
I really hadn’t wanted him to call for assistance but he did, He was either going on or off shift at the base.
I thanked them all after a bit of crack and mounted up and rode home the last 2 miles.
Put bike away and told Ann what happened and got a rollicking as you do.
Up into shower, 2 ibuprofen then evening meal.
I was noshing most of the evening, more ibuprofen then into the spare bed.
Next morning stif as a board and took ages to get mobile.
Same Tuesday night but improvement on Wednesday morning.
Wednesday evening far better and this morning almost back to normal so washed and polished the car this afternoon having been out for the weekly shop earlier.
I am very pleased that my recovery rate is still quite good taking about a day longer than say 10 years ago.
I will get out on the bike again ASAP other jobs permitting as some Caravan bits have arrived and need installed, new wheel studs that are special security ones. Also need to flush out the water system.
Busy week ahead packing gear for our holidays, final sort of bikes etc.
