I came across a family call “Steil” and thought now in my family I have a Stell family. I had found a 4x GG/F on 1841 C and he was from Scotland but his daughter was born in Co. Durham.
As those of who do Family Tree research will know, one thing leads to another and you wonder how you got there.
With just a little digging I found a Family Tree on Ancestry that seemed to FIT my family.
In the past I had tried Stell, Steil, and Stele but nothing came up. I this time tried Steel and up it comes, the whole family and everything tied in.
In this case a James Steel born Scotland, had married a Hexham lass and had had 5 children at least.
I found the reason that I had not found this James Steel after 1841 was that he had gone down to near London leaving his eldest daughter In Heworth area. Of course I had been looking for a James Stell. He was a timber merchant so must of travelled about.
So it looks as if I have another 20 hours + of research on his family to do.
I do enjoy the HUNT.
