Today I rode the rest from campsite to Aylsham 17 miles each way on old railway track. Again on my MTB. Total 34 miles.
Most was single track with hardened mud or bits of gravel.
The changes in surface make a vast difference in rolling resistance and hence speed and effort require.
Old rail tracks are not level, I did 605 ft of climbing spread over the whole trip.
On way back at halfway point stopped at an old railway crossing house that now does snacks for a Coffee and a bit of chocolate cake. After leaving cafe stopped twice for a chat with two couples for about 10 mins each ( gives the legs a chance to recoupe).
On reflection I would have been better doing the ride tomorrow allowing more time for recovery from earlier ride.
But I managed it and still able to put the hammer down in short bursts as I got closer to our campsite.
No doubt Inwil be Dead tomorrow but delighted that I managed to do the longest rides for some years.
Now planing a ride on Sunday.
At another old railway station there was what I understand a motorcycle meet which tacks place every Friday night.
There were over 100 motorbikes that I could see and a lot of noshing going on as well as talking.
Very pleased with the ride, my fitness is improving markedly.
