Re: Friday's Header of 'Hebburn Teddy Boys'
l knew Derick Morton from my paper selling days at Winnie Gallagher Mortey if l remember was a canny footballer he was mates with Colin Milburn who lived next door to him both were in Clegwell school Operas in the 1950s.John Laverty l remember was in the TA when l was in,it would be late 50s he lived next door to Frankie Firths shop.Mick King l believe did live in Railway st next to Palmers. Ps here's a nice little story regarding John Laverties brother Houghie.I lived in Aussie in the sixties after work on a Saturday after noon Peter Hope another Hebburn lad lived in Hedley street at one time we would meet up with mates at the REX hotel kings Cross SYdney for a session.this particular day l noticed a couple of Guys leaning on the bar counter with there backs towards us l said to Peter lknow that guy just by the way he was standing so we had a bet l made a move to pass them lay and behold it was who l thought it was John Laverties older brother Hougie he knew me straight away.Houghie and his mate were stewards on the Northern Star liner berthed down the road at WOOLOOMOOLOO docks on Sydney harbour needless to say they ended up a bit worst for wear they ended up being put in a taxi back to the ship.l think the Aussie regulars got fed up with us singing the Blaydon races l some times reflect on a chance meeting from ones home town on the other side of the world ,seeing Normans header photo with JOhn Laverty in the photo brought the mememory of meeting his brother Houghie on the other side of the world all those years ago.happy days.to Norman many thanks for putting those old header photos on the board.they bring back such happy memories.
